Although some assume that the only people looking for Cambridge tourist information are potential students since this is known as a college town, there are actually just as many non-student travellers who come to enjoy this beautiful city.

Climate is often at the top of the list of anyone seeking tourist information for Cambridge. The city typically enjoys a maritime climate with low amounts of rain and snow. It is estimated that the sun shines an average of 1,500 hours per year here with mild summer temperatures around 22.5°C. Even the winters are surprisingly pleasant, rarely dropping below 7.6°C during the day.

English is the native language of Cambridge so making new friends or getting directions will never be a challenge. Euro is the currency and you will find that banks and even many travel agencies are able to exchange money. Even Marshall Airport Cambridge can handle this for you but the rates will be higher. Otherwise, ATM machines are in abundance.

If safety is your reason for seeking tourist information for Cambridge, you'll be interested to learn that this is one of the safest cities in the UK. If you do have an emergency that requires immediate police or medical attention, you can dial 999. Non-emergency calls can be made to 101. You will find the police and fire stations are centrally located on Parkside but there are also small ones in Histon and Sawston, two nearby villages.

Tourists rarely have any problems in Cambridge but there have been a few mugging cases at Parker's Pierce; simply avoid traveling in dim areas by yourself at night. Also, cycle theft is prevalent here. If you are riding a bike, use a lock.

Tourist information regarding transportation is fairly minimal as most of this city is pedestrian-friendly. There are some pavements that pedestrians share with cyclists so be alert in these areas. Alternatively, you can rent a bike. Sightseeing busses are a great way to explore the city as well; you will find them offering commentary in several different languages.

There is a local bus service in Cambridge if you need to get across the city or you just don't feel like walking. They are clean and efficient but make sure you have small denomination notes, many drivers won't take large notes or aren't able to provide change.

Although car use is discouraged by the Cambridge City Council , there are still taxis that operate 24 hours a day, year-round. They may not be as readily available compared to other tourist cities but they respond quickly when you call.
