Cambridge Markets
The Market Square is the best known historical market. In fact, stalls have been trading on the Market Square since the days of the Saxons. During the week you will find books, clothes and bric-a-brac as well as fruit and vegetables. However, Sundays sees the market in full bloom. Moreover, Arts and Crafts are available throughout the year at the All Saints Market, where local craftspeople sell their own handiwork. This market is worth a visit.
Westgate is so named because that's where the west gate of the city of Oxford used to be situated in times gone by. It is now the west end of Queen Street. Currently, Westgate has 35 shops including those providing stylish clothes for men and women, from designer fashion to the latest in trends. An ambitious plan to convert it into a shopping area of approximately 750,000 sq ft (69,675 m²), (including the existing centre) with close to 100 new shops, bars, restaurants and cafes, a John Lewis department store and a delineated area for smaller independent retailers is on the cards.
The John Allen Centre (also known as Templar's Retail Park) features warehouse-style stores, currently occupied by B&Q; Halfords, Comet, JJB Sports; Matalan and TK Maxx.
