Stay in comfort and choose a holiday cottage

Cambridge hotels

Cambridge has plenty to offer, with stunning scenery and endless attractions and only one hour away from London, its worth a visit to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Cambridge is a famous, historical university town; days here can be spent exploring art galleries and museums. The University museums have displays on everything from zoology to archaeology and anthropology and whilst exploring sections of the university the botanical gardens here are a must to wander around. And why not try punting on the River Cam and whilst it looks difficult can be mastered by most people and the trick is to remember to let go of the pole if it becomes stuck in the mud.

Cambridgeshire is a perfect holiday location as it is steeped in history and has the best of both worlds, the city and lovely English countryside to escape into. There are endless accommodation options from hotels to quaint B&B's, however something that is becoming more and more popular is self-catered accommodation such as holiday cottages from EasyCottages. This gives you the freedom to choose where you wish to stay and how long, no matter what your budget is.

The highlight of Cambridgeshire is the ability to feel like you have escaped to the country, when you are only an hour from busy inner city London. Holiday cottages are dotted around the Cambridgeshire country side, even a grade II listed wing of an Elizabethan house that was visited on numerous occasions by Oliver Cromwell can be your royal resting place for a few days.

That is the unique beauty of cottages, you could be resting in a former pub, a royal bedroom, an old bakery, a 17th century barn, a former pump house in a mill and so much more, all with their own history and story to tell. Although most of the holiday cottages have long, colourful histories, they have all been updated and refurbished and are very comfortable with modern amenities.

Ely, is a medieval village only a few miles from Cambridge and a trip here isn’t complete without visiting the many churches and cathedrals, as well as dropping in to the local legends house, Oliver Cromwell’s Cottage.

If its horse racing you like, popular New market is only a few miles away, if the races are not on that day a visit to the National Horse Racing Museum is a must. The Fens region is renowned for its beautiful countryside with an abundant of walks, through forests and woodlands.

Another village in Cambridgeshire worth a visit with some beautiful properties, is the market town Huntingdon. You can find out more about Cromwell here, as this was his birthplace, by visiting the Hinchingbrooke House. Explore Brampton Wood here as well as visit the Kimbolten Castle, and then you can always be assured of a warm, comfortable resting place at the end of a long day in your cosy, holiday cottage.
